  • An affordable option for all your general CB install needs
  • 90% shielding rating prevents signal leak
Description

This RG-58 CB coax is an affordable choice for general CB installations. The outer shield layer is rated at 90% and helps reduce signal leakage and interference. Dual molded PL-259 connections allow you to connect a CB radio to any stud mount that accepts a PL-259-style coax connection. If your budget allows, we recommend upgrading to  our RG8X or Firestik coax options that will provide less signal loss (resulting in better range) and will hold up better over time.

Specs

Product Details: 9' or 18' in length 90% shielding

All CB radios and mount studs that accept a PL-259 coax connection. For most uses, we recommend 18' over 9', because the longer cable is more resistant to performance and installations problems. The 9' length doesn't cause problems, but 18' lengths tend to work better in most installations, which is why we recommend them.

Coax Length

Choosing Between 9' vs 18'

If your CB installation is done perfectly, it shouldn't really matter what length coax you use.  But we've found that in the event a less-than-perfect antenna location is chosen, coax lengths of 18' help to lessen the problem vs. exacerbate it.  For this reason, we recommend 18' coax for mobile installs, as it provides a bit of performance cushion in case the antenna isn't working at 100%.

That being said, using a 9' coax isn't a problem.  Just understand that 9' lengths will provide less "grace" in the event of SWR issues / a non-ideal mounting location, so you'll want to take extra care to install your equipment properly and ensure a properly tuned antenna.
